Media Release 15th November 2019

This year Women’s Refuge has partnered with The Warehouse to accept much-needed gifts for families affected by family violence over the holidays.

The Warehouse’s ‘Be the Joy’ campaign is running in all 93 stores across the country until the 15th of December, providing a place for Kiwis to donate unwrapped gifts of their choice to their local Refuge. The campaign was kickstarted with an incredible donation of 68 swing and slide sets to all Women’s Refuge safehouses across New Zealand.

CEO Pejman Okhovat says The Warehouse is accepting all new gifts no matter where they are purchased.

“People who visit our stores often want to do something special for others at Christmas time.

“We have a long history of supporting Women’s Refuge and the community and we hope any little act of giving will help women and children in this situation to feel supported.

“Some of the items which are most useful include toys, kids’ clothing and toiletries.”

Through the generosity of The Warehouse customers we will be able to provide gifts to tamariki in our care. While this may seem like a small gesture to some, receiving a gift at Christmas can bring so much joy to families in crisis, sending a powerful message of compassion and care during a difficult time in their lives.

Women’s Refuge is extremely grateful to have The Warehouse as an official partner and to be part of the Be the Joy Campaign.
